Ivan Infante

assistant professor

Ivan Infante studied chemistry at the Universitá della Basilicata (IT). He then moved to the Vrije Universiteit in Amsterdam (NL) where he earned his PhD in October 2006 under the supervision of Lucas Visscher and Evert Jan Baerends, with a thesis aimed at the spectroscopic characterization of actinide molecules using highly precise ab initio computational methodologies. After a two-years postdoc experience under the supervision of Laura Gagliardi at the University of Geneva (CH), he was bestowed a Juan de la Cierva grant and moved to the University of the Basque Country (ES) where he could pursue his independent research career. In May 2014, he was awarded a prestigious Vidi grant from The Netherlands organization for scientific research. This grant has enabled him to establish his own research group as an Assistant Professor at the Vrije Universiteit in Amsterdam (NL). His current research is in the field of colloidal semiconductor nanocrystals, with a special emphasis in characterizing trap states combining theoretical calculations and experiments through his many collaborations.

Simon Boehme

postdoctoral researcher

Simon Boehme studied Physics at the University of Konstanz (D), during which he got exposed to both applied research (internship in 2007 on organic photovoltaics at the Energy Research Center of the Netherlands in Petten, NL) as well as fundamental research (MSc thesis in 2010 on ultrafast THz-spectroscopy at the FOM-Institute AMOLF in Amsterdam, NL). For his PhD research, he joined the group of Laurens Siebbeles at TU Delft (NL); under the supervision of Arjan Houtepen, he studied ultrafast processes in semiconductor nanocrystals using combinations of ultrafast laser spectroscopy and electrochemical gating. Having obtained his doctoral degree in 2015, Simon moved to the LaserLaB Amsterdam at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (NL), extending his work to organic electronics and perovskite nanocrystals, mainly collaborating with Elizabeth von Hauff and John Kennis. At present, he is part of the group of Ivan Infante, shedding light on vibrational properties of semiconductor nanocrystals. In January 2018, he will start his own research line on thermal processes in semiconductor nanocrystals, supported by a VENI grant from the Netherlands organization for scientific research.
